Former Mayor Zenaida Moya and businessman Melbourne Wade theft case adjourned as parties consider mediation

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Former Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya and businessman Melbourne Wade returned to the Lower Court a week ago, continuing their dispute over a theft charge in which Wade is accused of swindling $4,195 from Moya.

The trial, originally set to begin September 19 at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Coney Drive, was adjourned to December 31, 2025, as both parties are contemplating a civil settlement through mediation. The court clarified that Wade’s criminal case remains active until Moya formally requests no further action, depending on the outcome of any civil resolution.

Wade, a car dealer and former manager for Moya, expressed concerns about the amount in dispute. While Moya claims he stole $4,195, Wade maintains that he only owes her $1,195, asserting that the remaining $3,000 was properly disbursed for Moya-related expenses, and that he has receipts to support his claim. He also indicated that he is willing to engage in civil mediation only if the criminal charges are dismissed.

Both parties left the courtroom as the next hearing date was set for the last day of the year, December 31, 2025, giving them time to negotiate a possible resolution.
