By Breaking Belize News Staff: Former Mayor of San Ignacio and Santa Elena Orlando Habet is calling out Mayor of San Ignacio and Santa Elena Earl Trapp demanding that the scheduled Rodeo to be held at the Macal River Park be moved.
Habet says that as Mayor, he established the Macal Park as a “Green Park.”
“It was intended to be the Twin Town’s first green park. This means it would be developed with trees, flower gardens, water ways etc. It was not supposed to have any concrete. It was meant to be quiet. A park for the pleasure of nature, for subtle recreation and relaxation,” Habet stated.
Habet says that the current Mayor has changed the look of the park with construction of a concrete stage.
“Politics aside, I cannot support this kind of activity in this park. It is ludicrous to think that you can put wild cattle and horses in a Rodeo to destroy the integrity of this park. This is absolutely ridiculous,” Habet added.
Habet says that the residents of Moratown think that the park should be conserved in its natural state and are also opposing the activity.
