Former Mayor of Belmopan urges women participation in electoral politics

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Former Mayor of Belmopan Sharon Palacio is urging Belizean women to apply as standard bearers for the PUP.

Palacio calls on Belizean women to apply to represent the PUP in the 2025 general elections.

“Calling on 30 Women to put forward your names for the post of Standard Bearer to represent the Peoples United Party in the 2025 General Elections.  Upcoming Conventions must have a Woman’s name on all 31 constituencies ballots.

No longer must Women remain as Zone leaders, Area Captains and Campaigners,” Palacio said.

“My Women your participation for leadership begins at offering yourselves as Standard Bearers.  So. hurry up apply and submit before the due date.  Please make 2025 Elections more colorful and properly balanced,” Palacio added.

The 2023 Human Rights report released recently cited that “Observers noted that cultural and societal constraints, including strong discouragement from family members and a general voter bias for electing men, limited the number of women running for elected office.”
