Former Mayor and Government Minister Hector Silva says “PUP defeated PUP in Twin Towns”

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On March 6, 2024, the residents of San Ignacio and Santa Elena casted their vote in the Municipal elections.

After the last vote was counted and reconciled, the UDP’s Earl Trapp emerged victorious along with 5 UDP councilors and 1 PUP Councilor.

In 2021, the PUP won 5 Councilor seats in San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

This time around, the PUP won 61 of the 67 Municipal seats countrywide.

But what happened in San Ignacio and Santa Elena?

Former Mayor and Government Minister Hector Silva has shared on social media that the PUP defeated the PUP in the Twin Towns.

“WHY WAS IT DONE THIS WAY? This is yet another question being floated, among PUP LOYALISTS in San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

These rumblings actually began in early 2021. – Rumors and more Rumors of dissatisfaction began to rumble and kept increasing by the hour,

Not much attention was being paid by PUP Higher Ups, perhaps because IT WAS TOO OMPOSSIBLE TO BE TRUE,” Silva stated.

Silva’s analysis indicate that factions within the PUP in the Twin Towns began attacking each other.

Meanwhile, in Benque Viejo and in Belmopan, their area representatives united and worked on their campaign.

In addition, Silva said that the PUP is conducting an analysis of what went wrong in San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town.
