By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A young football player is fighting to rebuild her life this week after a road traffic accident on San Victor Road in Corozal on Tuesday night left her without one of her legs.
Miriam Villamil, thirty seven years old, was among eight passengers aboard a white 24 seater van traveling on San Victor Road just after 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 26th when the vehicle collided into the rear of a six wheeler cane truck that had broken down and was parked on the shoulder of the road.
ASP Stacy Smith confirmed that the cane truck had experienced mechanical issues and was stationary on the roadside when the white van rear ended it with significant force. The van sustained extensive damage to the front while the cane truck showed damage to its rear from the impact.
Villamil, who was seated at the front of the van, received the full force of the collision and suffered severe injuries that resulted in the amputation of one of her legs. She is currently listed in a serious but stable condition.
Seven other passengers were onboard the van at the time of the crash including adults and children.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
