By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 23 year old chef of Carmelita Village has reported being attacked with a machete following a six a side football final.
According to the report, the man was seated near the middle of the field with his common law wife and their two year old son, cheering for the losing team.
He told police that members of two families nearby, who were consuming alcohol and supporting the winning team, began throwing indirect verbal taunts because of his team loyalty.
The harassment escalated after the match ended. One man approached him shouting insults and pointing aggressively in his face, before another blindsided him from behind, placing him in a chokehold and pulling him from his chair.
As the situation turned into a group confrontation and he tried to flee, a third man intercepted him and struck him repeatedly with an orange handled machete, causing injuries to his head, back and limbs before bystanders intervened.
He escaped to the roadside and was later escorted by police to the Northern Regional Hospital. His injuries were certified as wounding.
One man is wanted. Court action has been requested.
