By Rubén Morales Iglesias: A woman and 11 men graduated as mediation officers on Saturday, November 30, 2024, after a intense training by the Football Federation of Belize (FFB). These mediators will now be part of the newly formed National Dispute Resolution Chamber.
In accordance with FIFA’s mandate and strategic goals, the FFB has integrated mediation as a key method for resolving football-related disputes. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the efficiency of dispute resolution among football stakeholders, including players, clubs, and the Federation itself. The primary aim is to improve access to justice and ensure that conflicts are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Mediation is a process where a neutral third party, the mediator, helps conflicting parties to resolve their disputes by facilitating dialogue and guiding them towards a mutually agreeable solution. The FFB strongly advocates for mediation, recognizing its potential to empower parties and produce more lasting resolutions.
The mediation services provided by the FFB are specifically designed to address the unique challenges of football-related conflicts, offering a tailored, confidential, and prompt approach to dispute resolution. The FFB has established a roster of certified mediators who are well-trained to handle these mediations under the Federation’s guidance.
Continuing its mission, the FFB is committed to fostering a robust football culture through sustainable practices, aiming to be exemplary ambassadors both on and off the field.
