By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize on Wednesday announced international appointments for FFB officers to serve in regional competitions.
“Today, we highlight the notable achievements of FFB personnel who are gaining recognition as esteemed professionals within CONCACAF,” said the FFB, which took the opportunity to praise President Sergio Chuc for what it termed as ‘visionary leadership by fostering football opportunities for Belizeans.’
“As CONCACAF embarks on the first week of the Central American Cup, several Belizeans are playing pivotal roles in the tournament’s success.”
According to the FFB, Assistant General Secretary Luis Peña, Executive Officer Marlon Kuylen, consultant Ian Jones, referee Juan Colindres, and Marketing and Communications Director Yashmin Juan have all received assignments to the CONCACAF Central American Cup, which kicked off on Tuesday, July 30.
Jones and Peña were assigned to Nicaragua for the match in which home team Cacique Diriangen defeated Honduras’ Motagua 2-1 on Tuesday. Jones served as the Match Coordinator and Peña as the CONCACAF Security officer.
Kuylen and Colindres worked in the match in which home club CS Herediano defeated Panama’s Tauro FC 1-0 at the Estadio Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica. Kuylen served as Match Commissioner and Colindres was designated as Assistant Referee.
Juan, who has previously been designated as media officer at the Women’s Gold Cup and the CONMEBOL Copa America, is serving as a CONCACAF Media Officer in the CONCACAF Central American Cup for the Port Layola games in Belmopan.
Additionally, Director of Referees Eugene Contreras and Stann Creek Football Association Chairman Kevin Flores will be serving at the CONCACAF Under-15 Girls League C Championship in Aruba, which gets underway on Monday, August 5. Contreras has been assigned as Referee Assessor and Flores as Match Coordinator.

The FFB also said Cruz Gamez, Executive Member of the Cayo Football Association, has been designated as a Match Commissioner for the Under-17 UNCAF Tournament to be held in Costa Rica this year.
Meanwhile, long-standing FFB officer, Melanie Matute, who is currently the National Teams Manager and who has worked several CONCACAF tournaments, recently returned from her appointment at the UNCAF Central American Women’s Interclubs Cup in Guatemala, in which Belizean champions Sagitun GIRLZ competed.
“These appointments underscore the commitment and professionalism of Belizean football officials, contributing to the sport’s development and success regionally and internationally,” the FFB said.
