By Zoila Palma:  Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased in July 2026, adding to the cost of household groceries across Belize.

According to the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB), the category recorded an inflation rate of 1.9 percent compared with July 2025, with higher prices for several commonly purchased food items.

Food prices alone increased by an average of 1.8 percent. The largest increases were recorded for beef and poultry, which rose by 4.6 percent, while sugar prices jumped by 16.4 percent.

Bread and bakery products also became more expensive, increasing by 1.8 percent compared with the same period last year.

Non-alcoholic beverages recorded a 2.1 percent increase, largely due to higher prices for instant coffee and fruit and vegetable juices. Instant coffee prices climbed by 13.1 percent, while fruit and vegetable juices increased by 3.3 percent.

The increase in food prices was one of the major contributors to Belize’s overall 4.1 percent inflation rate in July.
