Flooding and settlement affect Corozal–Sarteneja road

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) is warning motorists about significant settlement and flooding along a section of the Corozal–Sarteneja road.

According to the Ministry, approximately 200 meters (650 feet) of roadway near the south approach to the Pueblo Nuevo Bridge has experienced unprecedented settlement. The situation may have been worsened by tidal flow from a nearby lagoon.

MIDH crews are currently working to fill low spots in an effort to keep the road passable to vehicular traffic. The affected section will be narrowed and clearly marked to guide drivers safely through the area.

Motorists are being urged to remain vigilant, reduce speed, and pay close attention to warning signs and road markers.

In the event that floodwaters overtop the roadway again, drivers are advised not to attempt crossing. The Ministry indicated that the road may be temporarily closed, with traffic redirected through San Estevan if necessary.
