By Zoila Palma: This morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Immigration, in collaboration with the United Nations Office in Belize, held a flag-raising ceremony at the BNE Flag Roundabout in Belmopan to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
The ceremony was attended by Amalia Mai, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with Raúl Salazar, UN Resident Coordinator for Belize, and other UN heads and partners.
The event recognized eight decades of international cooperation, peacebuilding, and sustainable development under the global theme, “Eighty Years of Unite and Progress: Reflecting on the Past, Building the Future.”
In a message shared by UNICEF Belize, the organization emphasized its ongoing commitment to supporting children and families across the country. “In Belize, UNICEF works hard to make sure every child can grow up healthy, learn in school, and feel safe because building a better future starts with caring for children today,” the statement read.
UNICEF encouraged communities and partners to help create inclusive, protective spaces for every child, reaffirming that “together, we can make tomorrow brighter for all children.”
