By Zoila Palma:  Under the CARICOM Boost Women and Youth in Agriculture Project, Youth Agriculture Focal Point Officer Abimael Puck has facilitated the delivery of 5 shade houses to support farmers organized in cluster groups across the Orange Walk and Corozal districts.

The initiative forms part of a regional effort to strengthen food security and reduce the Caribbean’s food import bill by 25 percent by 2025 and beyond, the Ministry of Agriculture noted.

The shade houses are intended to enhance sustainable agricultural production by improving climate-smart resilience, productivity, and profitability, particularly among young farmers.

By providing protected growing environments, the project aims to build farmers’ capacity to adapt to climate variability while increasing yields and improving overall efficiency within the agricultural sector.

This activity falls under Component Two of the project.

Component One, which involved the provision of two cold storage units, has already been completed.
