By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police say they have removed an illegal firearm and eight live rounds of ammunition from the streets following the arrest and charge of a young Belize City resident.
The accused is 24-year-old Kyle Sydney Cadle, a fisherman of Riverside Street, Belize City. Cadle appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 on Wednesday, where he was charged with two firearm-related offenses: keeping an unlicensed firearm and keeping unlicensed ammunition.
The charges stem from allegations that Cadle was in possession of a black Beretta 9mm pistol with serial number, along with eight live rounds of 9mm ammunition, without being the holder of a gun license. Cadle pleaded not guilty to both charges. Although he attempted to offer an explanation, the court advised him that none was required given his plea.
Due to the nature of the offenses, bail was denied and Cadle was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until April 16, 2026.
According to police, on Monday, February 2, 2026, in the area of Administration Drive, while on patrol along Riverside Street heading toward Lacroix Boulevard, officers observed a slim-built, short, dark-skinned man wearing a grey T-shirt and a blue beanie, riding a 16-inch ladies-frame pink and black beach cruiser bicycle toward them.
Police say that upon seeing the patrol, the man rode off at a fast pace and made a sudden right turn into Cranklin Street. Two cops, set chase. From approximately five feet away, officers say the man jumped off the bicycle and ran into a fenced yard.
One officer reported seeing the suspect reach into the right side of his pants waist, pull out a black object resembling a firearm, and throw it to the ground. The object reportedly struck a zinc fence and made a banging sound. The suspect continued running but was captured by another officer a short distance away. The discarded object was later recovered and confirmed to be a firearm.
