By Zoila Palma: Bryan Paau, a first generation graduate shared his pride and gratitude after earning a Bachelor degree in Social Work from the University of Belize.
“Reflecting on this degree, I realize social work is not just a title—it carries real weight. I remember the moments of stumbling down and picking myself back up, the times of feeling helpless, and the moments of pushing against what seemed impossible. I remember learning to stand firm, say “NO” to systemic power, and extend a hand to those who felt forgotten,” Paau said.
Paau says that he is aware that the road ahead will not be easy but he enters the field ready to serve.
“As I step into the field, I am ready to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those I serve, even when it means confronting oppressive leadership or facing authorities who believe they can manipulate systems and suppress those in need. I anticipate times when I will be knocking my head against the wall, fighting uphill battles against entrenched power. But I know without a doubt that I am called to this profession. No matter the resistance or pressure, I will proudly uphold the core values of social work, advocate fiercely for justice, and remain an unyielding voice for human dignity and integrity,” he added.
He expressed gratitude to his family and friends and those who stood beside him during this milestone.
“Here’s to the beginning of something great! Impact over everything,” Paau expressed.
