By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The first ever International Futsal Tournament, organized by the National Futsal League of Belize (NFLB), will be held from Friday to Sunday, August 16-18, at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex in Orange Walk Town.
The six-team regional tournament, which features one team each from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and two from Belize, promises an exciting weekend of high-level futsal competition.
El Rancho Futsal from Belmopan, Cojute Futsal from El Salvador, and FC Fútbol RM from Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, comprise Group A.
Orange Walk Futsal, Independiente from Honduras, and San Jose Futsal from Guatemala make up Group B.

The tournament will kick off at 8:00 pm on Friday, August 16, 2024, with Belmopan’s El Rancho squaring off against Cojute. The second game will feature local side Orange Walk Futsal against Independiente at 9:00 pm.
Tickets for this historic event are available exclusively through DigiWallet, with special offers for multi-day passes: $24 for three days, $18 for two days, and $10 for a single day.
NFLB Executive Member Ben Ramos from Orange Walk said the NFLB is led by President Josué Rivera from the Belmopan area. The NFLB, he said, is hoping this first international tournament will spark greater interest in futsal across Belize. The NFLB’s goal is for other districts to compete in future tournaments to pave the way for an Inter-District Futsal Tournament. Currently, futsal is only played competitively in Orange Walk and Belmopan. El Rancho have been playing futsal for quite while now, having competed internationally in 2016 in a tournament in Guatemala.
Ramos said they are also seeking to be sanctioned by the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) by next year. The FFB contributed jerseys for the Belize teams for this competition.

The two groups will play single round robins. The top two from each group advance to the semifinals on Sunday. The final and third place matches will also be played on Sunday (See schedule below).

- 7:30 PM: Cojute Futsal (SLV) vs. FC Fútbol RM (MX)
- 8:30 PM: Independiente Futsal (HON) vs. San Jose Futsal (GUA)
- 9:30 PM: FC Fútbol RM (MX) vs. Belmopan Futsal (BZE 1)
- 10:30 PM: San Jose Futsal (GUA) vs. Orange Walk Futsal (BZE 2)
- Sunday, August 18, 2024:
- 10:00 AM: Semi-Final 1 (1st Place Group A vs. 2nd Place Group B)
- 11:00 AM: Semi-Final 2 (1st Place Group B vs. 2nd Place Group A)
- 1:00 PM: Third Place Match
- 2:00 PM: Final
El Rancho competed internationally in a tournament in Guatemala in 2016.
