By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating a fire in northern Belize.
On Tuesday, November 4, about 11:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a fire in San Antonio Village. Upon arrival, they observed smoke coming from a cement house.
Police spoke to 40-year-old Calvin Gilharry, a Belizean musician and Village Chairman of San Antonio Village, the owner of the house. He reported that around 11:00 p.m., he was awakened by the smell of smoke and noticed that his room was engulfed in flames. He managed to escape without injury through one of the windows.
The fire was extinguished with the assistance of family members. The house is not insured, and the estimated cost of damages is unknown.
