By Aaron Humes: A mother and her six-year-old son tragically lost their lives in a fire that investigators suspect was deliberately set. The victims have been identified as 35-year-old Angelita Magaña and her young son, Tishan Godoy.

Around 3:00 a.m., flames engulfed the home of the Magaña family, alarming nearby villagers who rushed to the scene. According to reports, the fire was allegedly set by Francisco Godoy, 34, Angelita’s ex-common-law husband. Eyewitnesses recounted hearing a loud noise just before they saw the blaze.

Inside the home were Angelita’s daughter and her partner, Miguel Novelo, who was also caught in the chaos. Novelo reported that he awoke to find Godoy running from a room that was on fire. Moments later, Angelita and her daughter emerged, covered in flames. Despite Novelo’s desperate attempt to rescue young Tishan, the heat proved insurmountable, and firefighters later discovered the charred remains of both Angelita and Tishan inside the home.

Francisco Godoy, who sustained serious burns in the incident, is currently under police guard at the hospital as police continue their investigation.

Tragically, it has been revealed that Godoy had recently been released from prison on October 7, where he served time for common assault. Angelita had expressed fears for her safety, having sought a restraining order just days before the fire. She had moved to a new address, later the site of this morning’s fire, just four days earlier in an effort to escape his abusive behavior. Neighbors reported that Godoy had been asking about her whereabouts, raising further concerns about her safety.

In response to the heartbreaking loss, St. Michael Roman Catholic School in San Felipe released a statement expressing their deep sorrow over the deaths of Tishan, a student in the Infant II class, and Angelita, a dedicated helper at the school. “It is with profound sadness that our school community mourns the loss of two beloved members of our St. Michael Family,” the school stated. “May their souls rest in peace and rise in eternal glory. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family, especially their older daughter, who is still fighting for her life.”

The investigation into the fire remains ongoing as police aim to bring justice for Angelita and Tishan.
