By Breaking Belize News Staff: Veteran politician Michael Finnegan has made waves across Belize’s political landscape after bluntly declaring that his nephew, Shyne Barrow, has had his run and it’s time to step aside. Speaking candidly on KREM’s WUB morning show, Finnegan criticized what he sees as a lack of progress and vision within the opposition party and pointed directly at Shyne’s leadership.
“The party is in bad shape,” Finnegan said. “And if we’re serious about saving it, then we need to open the door for new people to come in. Shyne had his shot, and now it’s time to move on.”
While Finnegan acknowledged Barrow’s intelligence and potential, he emphasized that personality flaws and ineffective leadership have prevented the party from gaining traction. “You can’t take away from him all the abilities he has,” Finnegan stated. “But you also have to be able to work with your flaws — and the party cannot afford to stay stagnant.”
Shyne Barrow has not publicly responded, but political insiders suggest that Finnegan’s remarks echo growing frustrations within the party base.
