Sonia Fritz, director and producer of Marina Films, along with co-producer Annabelle Mullen of Belle Films, and co-producer AdocPR, have won the prestigious Award of Merit from The Impact DOCS Awards Competition. This award for Voces de pasión, a feature-length documentary that highlights five inspiring stories of Puerto Rican singers with international careers (Joel Prieto, Meechot Marrero, Larisa Martínez, Rafael Dávila and Laura Pabón), was awarded for its content, visuals, and music.

“I am grateful for this recognition for Voces de pasión and our singers and talent behind the camera, in addition to being an inspiring story of national pride,” said Sonia Fritz, director of the documentary (photographed and edited by Philip Escobar-Jung, with the post completion in the Reaktor Post studio). Impact DOCS recognizes film, television, videography and new media professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, as well as contributing to profound social change. At Impact DOCS they received documentaries from 30 countries, including veterans of the medium as well as new talent, and the projects submitted were judged by award-winning and recognized professionals in the film and television industry.

In winning the Impact DOCS award, Marina Films, Belle Films, and AdocPR join other high-profile international winners, such as Oscar winners Louie Psihoyos for his Racing Extinction as Best of Show in 2016, Oscar winner Yael Melamede for (Dis)Honesty – The Truth About Lies, and Emmy winner Gerald Rafshoon for Endless Corridors, narrated by the great Jeremy Irons, among many more.

Rick Prickett, who leads Impact DOCS, said this about the recent winners: “The judges and I were simply blown away by the variety and immensely important documentaries we screened. Impact DOCS is not an easy award to win…” [. . .] Impact DOCS sets a standard for mastery of craft and creativity, as well as a catalyst for global change. “The goal of Impact DOCS is to help winners receive the recognition they deserve for their dedication and work,” Prickett added.
