By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The final two Round of 16 matches of the FIFA Club World Cup delivered drama and decisive moments on Tuesday, as Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund secured their places in the quarterfinals with narrow but hard-fought victories.

Real Madrid 1–0 Juventus (Hard Rock Stadium, Miami)

A single moment of brilliance was enough to separate two European giants. Gonzalo García, Real Madrid’s breakout star of the tournament, rose to the occasion once again, heading home a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross in the 54th minute. Juventus had their chances—most notably a first-half breakaway by Randal Kolo Muani—but couldn’t find a way past Thibaut Courtois, who stood tall in goal. The win sends Madrid into a heavyweight clash with Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund 2–1 Monterrey (Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta)

Dortmund struck early through Serhou Guirassy, who bagged a brace within the first 25 minutes. Monterrey responded with a second-half header from Germán Berterame, but the German side held firm despite late pressure. The match also marked a milestone for the tournament, as Francisco Mendoza, a local Atlanta fan, was honored as the 2 millionth spectator of the 2025 edition.
