By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 kicked off in the United States, featuring a revamped 32-team format.
The tournament kicked off Saturday, June 14, with an intense opening match between Inter Miami and Al Ahly, ending in a 0-0 draw at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
Despite the lack of goals, the match was filled with drama. Al Ahly dominated the first half, creating several chances, but Inter Miami’s goalkeeper Oscar Ustari delivered a heroic performance, making multiple crucial saves, including a penalty stop against Mahmoud Trezeguet in the 43rd minute.
In the second half, Lionel Messi led Miami’s attack, nearly scoring with a long-range strike, only for Al Ahly’s Mohamed El Shenawy to deny him with a fingertip save. Fafa Picault also came close, but his header was turned away late in the match.
Then on Sunday, June 15, Bayern Munich delivered a stunning performance, demolishing Auckland City 10-0 at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. Kingsley Coman (6′, 21′), Sacha Boey (18′), Michael Olise (20′, 45+3′), Thomas Müller (45′, 89′), and Jamal Musiala (67′, 73′ pen, 84′) all contributed to the German giants’ overwhelming victory.
Elsewhere, Paris Saint-Germain displayed their strength with a 4-0 victory over Atlético Madrid at Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Fabian Ruiz (19′), Vitinha (45′), Senny Mayulu (87′), and Lee Kang-in (90′ pen) secured the win, proving why PSG are among the favourites to lift the trophy.
Other results included Botafogo defeating Seattle Sounders 2-1, with Jair Cunha (27′) and Igor Jesus (43′) scoring for the Brazilian club, while Cristian Roldan (74′) pulled one back for Seattle.
Meanwhile, Palmeiras and Porto played to a 0-0 draw.
