By Breaking Belize News Staff: During Thursday’s sitting of the House of Representatives, Prime Minister John Briceño highlighted the strong financial performance of the rebranded Fi We Boledo.
The PM praised the government’s decision to take back control of the national Boledo operation.
Briceño said the system had been previously operated by a “UDP crony” for more than a decade, costing the public substantial revenue.
“This boledo was given to a UDP crony for about 10 or 11 years. Monies that could have come to the coffers of this government and for the people of this country,” he stated.
The Prime Minister further noted that the same individual later appeared in court as “an interested party when all along he said that he had no interest.”
According to year-one financial results, Fi We Boledo generated $123.2 million in sales from April 2024 to March 2025, returning $105 million in winnings to the public.
After expenses, the operation recorded $16.7 million in net earnings, with projections showing profits expected to exceed $20 million in its second year.
Government officials have also highlighted broader national benefits including contributions to the National Health Insurance programme.
