By Aaron Humes: Four individuals, including a police officer, were arrested and charged on Friday, October 25, following a thorough investigation into a spate of robberies that transpired in Western Belize between June and October 2024.
The arrested police officer, identified as Eva Dawson, has been implicated in seven separate incidents of robbery. She faces seven counts of conspiracy to commit robbery, one charge for each reported incident that occurred in Belmopan from June 5 to October 18. Joining her in custody are Elijah Jonathan Cruz, 18 years old; Robert Andrew Tillett, 25; and Jonathan David Cruz, 47.
Elijah Cruz has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, while Jonathan Cruz faces more serious allegations with four counts of robbery along with the same seven counts of conspiracy to commit robbery in connection with Dawson. Meanwhile, Robert Tillett is facing three counts of robbery.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero, who oversees the Eastern Division, confirmed that part of the investigation revealed disturbing evidence that the robbers may have used police uniforms during at least one of the reported heists. This revelation has raised concerns about the integrity of the police force and the potential for internal complicity in criminal activities.
Following their arrests, all four suspects have been presented in court, where legal proceedings are set to unfold as authorities seek to hold them accountable for their alleged crimes.
