By Aaron Humes: Concerning the attempted murder case of Derek Hines, which took place on Saturday, April 19, police have arrested and charged 35-year-old Felix Gonzalez Jr., a Belizean self-employed individual residing at West Street, Punta Gorda Town, with attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm following investigation into the incident.
Hines was shot in the neck while walking on Prince Street around 9:15 p.m. Police responded to the scene quickly, and Hines was immediately rushed to the Punta Gorda Hospital for initial treatment.
Given the severity of the injury, he was later transferred to the Western Regional Hospital for further medical attention. As of now, Hines is listed in stable condition.
Gonzalez is currently in police custody awaiting his court appearance, where he will face the charges brought against him.
