By Aaron Humes: A road traffic accident occurred this morning between miles 70 and 71 of the Philip Goldson Highway, resulting in one fatality. The police responded to the scene, where they found two vehicles severely damaged: a silver Jeep Compass bearing license plate CZLC-10516 and a red Toyota Tacoma.
According to initial investigations, Marcos Villanueva was driving the silver Jeep Compass from Orange Walk to Corozal when he allegedly entered the left lane and collided with the red Toyota Tacoma driven by Jesus Chicas, a 61-year-old farmer from San Roman Village, Corozal District. Chicas was traveling from Corozal to Orange Walk.
Chicas succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Villanueva was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital for treatment.
Police are working to locate two individuals who were reportedly traveling with Chicas in the Toyota Tacoma. Efforts will be made to issue medico forms and record statements from them. Further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
The body of Jesus Chicas is being transported to the Corozal Community Hospital. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
