By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Carmelita Village resident in Orange Walk has reported extensive damage to a family tomb after receiving video evidence showing a young man vandalizing items placed on the grave. The report was filed on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Orange Walk Police Station.
According to the complainant, a 55-year-old retired laborer, he received a phone call from his aunt earlier that morning informing him that she had obtained a video recorded the previous day. The footage, she said, clearly showed a young villager known as “Tatun” lifting the pillow and cement flowers from the tomb of their late relative, John Harris, and violently throwing them to the ground.
The complainant told police he recognized the individual in the video due to having known him for more than 20 years. He added that the man has reportedly displayed unusual behavior for the past five years.
Later that same morning, the complainant and his aunt visited the cemetery and confirmed the destruction. The pillow, valued at $500 BZD, was found smashed into pieces, and the cement flowers, valued at $120 BZD, were also broken, total damages amounting to $620 BZD.
A formal statement was recorded, along with the submitted video evidence. Scenes-of-crime personnel processed and photographed the area, and GPS coordinates were logged for documentation.
