By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Belize City family is raising serious concerns after what they describe as a government transfer of ancestral land carried out without the knowledge or con,sent of all rightful heirs.
The land, located in Belize City has long been shared by multiple siblings. Family members say they invested their own money and labor over the years to build permanent homes on the property, where they have lived peacefully with full family acknowledgment.
According to relatives, in May 2023, the land was transferred to one sister who does not reside in Belize, without consultation or approval from the other siblings who live on the land locally. Several family members say they only learned of the transfer after it had already been completed.
Since then, the family reports growing tension and division, including restricted access to the property and locked gates. They say the situation has created fear and uncertainty for those who have lived there for years.
The family is now questioning whether proper legal and ethical procedures were followed and is calling for transparency and accountability in the handling of shared ancestral land.
