By Zoila Palma: Thousands of Belizean students are now benefiting from the Government of Belize’s free education initiative, a flagship program under Prime Minister John Briceño’s Plan Belize agenda that is helping families save money while expanding access to secondary education across the country.
The program has opened doors for students from all walks of life, regardless of political affiliation, ensuring that educational opportunities are available to Belizeans based on need and merit rather than political colors.
Educational institutions such as Sacred Heart College in San Ignacio and Mopan Technical High School in Benque Viejo del Carmen have welcomed students under the initiative, allowing more young people to continue their education without the burden of costly tuition fees.
For many parents, the financial relief has been significant.
Families who previously struggled to cover tuition and other school-related expenses are now saving more than BZ$1,000 annually.
The savings can be redirected toward school supplies or other household expenses, and other necessities, easing the financial pressure faced by working-class families throughout the country.
Free education programs are now creating opportunities for students who may have otherwise been unable to attend high school or continue their studies.
By removing financial barriers, the Government of Belize is helping to increase enrollment rates and giving more young Belizeans the chance to develop the skills needed for future employment and personal success.
As the program continues to expand, thousands of students across Belize are reaping the benefits of a policy designed to make education more accessible and affordable.
