By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The National Meteorological Service of Belize says a light northwesterly airflow continues to dominate weather conditions across the country, keeping things mostly calm and warm today.
The 24-hour forecast calls for sunny skies with a few cloudy spells, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies tonight. Showers and thunderstorms will be isolated, with a few more expected over offshore areas this morning and again tonight.
Over the sea, winds will blow from the north to northwest at 5 to 15 knots, creating choppy to moderate seas with waves between 3 and 6 feet.
Temperatures will reach highs of 88°F along the coast, 93°F inland, and 82°F in the hills. Tonight, lows will fall to 77°F on the coast, 72°F inland, and 68°F in the hills.
In the tropical weather outlook, Hurricane Melissa remains a powerful Category 5 system located about 115 miles west-southwest of Kingston, Jamaica. With maximum sustained winds of 175 mph, Melissa is moving slowly north-northeast but poses no threat to Belize.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, skies will become cloudy at times with isolated showers or thunderstorms at first, increasing by afternoon before decreasing later that night as a cold front approaches the area.
Tides today: Low at 9:23 AM, high at 3:51 PM, low again at 7:37 PM, and high early tomorrow morning at 2:14 AM.
