By Breaking Belize News Staff: Mainly fair weather conditions are expected to continue today, according to the latest update from the National Meteorological Service.
Forecasters say Belizeans can expect mostly sunny skies with a few cloudy spells during the day and clear to partly cloudy conditions tonight. Showers and thunderstorms will remain generally isolated, though southern areas could see a few more later in the day.
Winds will blow from the east at 10 to 20 knots. Sea conditions will be light choppy but are expected to become moderate, with waves increasing from 2 to 4 feet to between 4 and 6 feet.
Temperatures will reach highs of 95°F inland, 87°F along the coast, and 80°F in the hills. Tonight, lows will fall to 73°F inland, 82°F on the coast, and 68°F in the hills.
In the tropics, Hurricane Erin was located at 3:00 a.m. about 435 miles north of Bermuda, moving northeast at 22 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. The system poses no threat to Belize. Meanwhile, a tropical wave in the central Atlantic (AL99) has a medium chance of development as it tracks westward, and another tropical wave east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands (AL90) shows a high chance of development within the next 48 hours. Neither system poses a current threat to the country.
Looking ahead to Saturday and Saturday night, forecasters predict isolated showers or thunderstorms, with southern areas again likely to experience more rainfall during the nighttime hours.
