By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The new week opens exactly as the weekend closed, with sunshine and warmth across Belize, while far to the north, the Gulf of Mexico system forecasters had been watching has officially become Tropical Depression Two, posing no threat to our area.
According to the National Meteorological Service, warm and relatively dry conditions continue over the area. Skies will be mostly sunny today and partly cloudy tonight, with showers, if any, staying isolated.
On the tropical front, the update is one to note calmly. At 9:00 p.m., Tropical Depression Two was located near 28.0N 85.1W, about 155 miles south-southeast of Panama City, Florida, moving north-northwest at 3 mph with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph. The system is far to Belize’s north and tracking toward the United States Gulf coast, away from our shores. Elsewhere in the region, including our area, tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the next 48 hours.
At home, the heat continues. Temperatures along the coast will reach a high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) and a low of 82 (28 Celsius). Inland areas will climb to a hot 94 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) and drop to 75 (24 Celsius). In the hills, expect a high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) and a low of 68 (20 Celsius).
At sea, conditions remain gentle, with east to northeasterly winds of 10 to 15 knots, a light chop, and waves of 2 to 4 feet, another fine day for boaters.
Looking ahead, fair and warm weather continues with only isolated showers on Tuesday and Tuesday night.
Today’s low tides are at 9:04 AM and 8:47 PM, with a high tide at 2:42 PM and another high at 2:53 AM tomorrow. The sun sets this evening at 6:29 PM and rises tomorrow at 5:28 AM. The forecast was issued by forecaster Shanea Young.
