Todd Avenue, Santurce, Puerto Rico.

Curatorial Essay (excerpts): [. . .] The works in this exhibition display a self-reflective and critical sensibility that is nourished by the artists’ own experience, time, and space. They use various strategies, including recycling, quotation, appropriation, but also research into various codes and references, for example, architecture, construction, the urban world, and identity, etc., as well as experimentation with materials. Its contents—through shapes, colors, and materials—account for the diversity of spaces to which they refer.

The modern vocabulary has already been assimilated by the artists of this exhibition. However, it is another lexicon, which brings to the surface diverse concerns, reflections on the social and cultural, and even issues of identity. They define their own distinctive time and place of enunciation.

There is a very marked difference between the works exhibited in this exhibition, but at the same time they maintain links in common. I have no doubt the unity arises from the views that are established from this vantage point. They are views that can open to multiple interpretations and possibilities—which the painter Phillip Guston called “the joy of the possible.”

The title of the exhibition, Miradero, suggests a gaze at the Other. From there you may observe life with all its components, virtues, conflicts, etc. Furthermore, from that place we see the art that others produce and is part of this set. Also, often, what we see looks back at us and questions our work, something that I consider fair and necessary. Because art is also asked to render account.

The works in this exhibition deserve all the attention and also deserve all the coins.”
