Art Absolument announced that a new exhibition centering on Cuban surrealist painter Jorge Camacho— “Jorge Camacho – Torgia – Alain Gruger: Les Liaisons surréalistes”—will be on view at Espace Art Absolument from January 18 through April 20, 2024. The gallery is located at 11 rue Louise Weiss, 75013 Paris, France.

Art Absolument writes: The work of Jorge Camacho is well known, in particular for his participation in surrealism – as will again be demonstrated in the fall of 2024 by his inclusion in an exhibition at the Centre Pompidou for the hundred years of the manifesto written by André Breton, which signaled the birth of the movement.

The work of Torgia and Alain Gruger are much less known, hidden from view by their respective wishes, which have fortunately changed recently. In 1959, Torgia met the young Cuban artist, who had barely arrived in Paris, and never left him again; and Gruger joined him to form a duo that called to devote themselves to “the nocturnal art of alchemical research,” the imprint of which can be read in all of Camacho’s pictorial and graphic developments.
