Mario Alegre Barrios (Press Director) shares that today, Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 7:00pm (EST) the collective exhibition “Gráfica vital” will open at the Museum of History, Anthropology, and Art [El Museo de Historia, Antropología y Arte] at the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras. He writes:
“Gráfica Vital” presents a sampling of Puerto Rican printmaking, with approximately 90 works by 73 artists, spanning from the 1950s to the present. The exhibition is based on a selection from the Museum’s robust collection of Puerto Rican prints, highlighting the variety of printing techniques, from traditional to experimental and digital.
At the same time, the exhibition affirms the crucial role of printmaking in the development of Puerto Rican art, highlighting artistic expression as a tool for cultural memory and resistance. Through ten thematic sections — “El duelo de la pérdida”, “Imagen y palabra”, “Conciencia política”, “Miradas críticas”, “Figuraciones íntimas”, “Dualidad del ser”, “Impresiones de la urbe”, “Paisaje”, “Estampas ecológicas” and “Abstracciones”— the exhibition promotes reflection and dialogue on the past and present, our identity, and contemporary challenges.
The events accompanying the exhibition include guided tours by specialists, discussions with artists, and art workshops; guided tours and mini-workshops will also be offered for groups with reservations. The first guided tour of the exhibition will take place with curator and museum director Flavia Marichal Lugo on Tuesday, March 25 at 7:00 pm.
The Museum of History, Anthropology, and Art is located on the University of Puerto Rico’s Río Piedras Campus, steps from the Urban Train Station. Parking is available in the Plaza Universitaria multi-story garage.
Admission to the Museum is free. Donations are accepted. For information and group reservations, please call (787) 763-3939.
