Organized by the REUNIÓN art space & project, “Desplazamientos” opens today, Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 2:00 to 6:00pm. The art space is located at 25 Calle Castillo, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The project continues until September 14, 2024.
With works by Yolanda Arroyo Pizarro, Melissa Calderón, Julián Collazo, Rosario Fernández Esteve, Julio Lugo-Rivas, Javier Moreno, Mari Mater O’Neill, Dhara Rivera, Pablo Santiago Romera, Norma Vila-Rivero, and Marga Vincenty, the exhibition includes collaborations such as a digital piece by Mari Mater O’Neill and Yolanda Arroyo Pizarro—with a virtual artificial intelligence assistant—who create a series of displaced and transferred poems and images from an Afro-Caribbean, Afrofuturist, and queer perspective.
Description: In the framework of the Polígrafica project (sponsored by the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture), the REUNIÓN art collective and project travels to the municipality of Ponce to investigate graphic media along axes, themes, and concepts relevant to current times. In DESPLAZAMIENTOS, the artists work on the dualities between media and topics related to the displacement of image-landscape-territory and community.
