Excellence in Climate Change Proposals Recognized at National Grant Fund Awards Ceremony

The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change, through the National Climate Change Office (NCCO), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Climate Promise, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST), and the Belmopan City Council is hosting a National Grant Fund Awards Ceremony on February 21, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to recognize outstanding climate change proposals submitted by schools and youth groups across Belize.

Five primary schools will each receive BZD 2,000 to support their climate change projects within their schools. These schools are:

  • Bullet Tree SDA Primary School
  • Eden SDA Primary School
  • Our Lady of Guadalupe Primary School
  • Yo Creek Compassion School
  • Holy Cross Anglican School

Additionally, two youth groups and three high schools will be honored for their contributions to climate change education and community engagement. These recipients will receive the following financial awards:

  • Belize Youth Movement – BZD 10,000
  • ILS Phoenix – BZD 6,000
  • St. Catherine Academy – BZD 5,000
  • Our Lady of Guadalupe High School – BZD 5,000
  • Methodist High School – BZD 5,000

These schools and youth groups are being recognized for their efforts to engage with climate change solutions and raise awareness in their communities. The event underscores the critical importance of youth involvement in addressing climate challenges and building a sustainable future.
