By Breaking Belize News Staff: A former police officer convicted of sexual assault will remain behind bars while awaiting the outcome of his appeal at the High Court.

39-year-old Brigilio Ack, who served 19 years with the Belize Police Department, was found guilty on August 15, 2025, for inappropriately touching a female colleague at the Rocky Road Police Booth. He was sentenced to eight months in prison.

Ack, represented by attorney Rachel Montejo, had applied for a stay of execution in hopes of being granted bail to return home during the appeal process. However, Senior Magistrate of Court #2 denied his application, stating that he may still apply for bail directly through the High Court.

Ack has already served one month and 2 weeks of his sentence. His conviction has halted his pay, pension, gratuity, and yearly increments, significantly affecting his benefits from the police department.

He was returned to the Belize Central Prison to continue serving his sentence.
