By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The National Evangelical Association of Belize has acknowledged the conviction and 10 year prison sentence handed down to Pastor Victor Hernandez on Monday, August 17.
In a press release signed by President Rev. Santie Valencia and the NEAB National Executive Team, the association said the situation is disturbing and saddening to the Church, but stressed that victims must come first.
“We fully accept the Court’s judgment and ruling and encourage the body of Christ to pray for the victim who bravely told her story,” the release states.
The association described the offence as unacceptable and criminal.
“Congregants place a sacred trust in Pastors and it is imperative that church leaders hold themselves, and each other, to a higher standard. This situation was a failure of that sacred principle of leadership in the Kingdom of God.”
NEAB is urging all pastors, churches, ministries and Bible study groups to discuss the issue with a view toward creating safe spaces and strong boundaries.
It also placed responsibility on leadership to build a culture that responds when the alarm bell goes off.
