Erwin Contreras refuses testimony to Senate Special Select Committee, citing court case

Posted: Monday, October 28, 2024. 3:39 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Senate Special Select Committee is back in recess after a third witness walked out on them.

Former Government Minister Erwin Contreras was reportedly picked up by police on the strength of a court warrant from his residence in Camalote, Cayo District, this morning, and appeared before the Committee just after 12 noon.

But he didn’t have much to say. He mentioned that the matter is subject to a court case and that he had legally been advised that he could not participate at the Committee as that would be “violating a court order.”

Contreras ignored Chair Janelle Chanona’s attempts to get him to read Section 14(4) of the Legislative Assembly Ordinance No. 62 and walked out of the George Price Center, prompting a suspension of the hearing.

Contreras is considered a key witness as the purported signer of the Portico Definitive Agreement for the Government with developer David Gegg.
