By Aaron Humes: A resident of Silk Grass, Stann Creek District who was found guilty of murder has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 23 years.
52-year-old Enrique Depaz was accused of the February 21, 2016 murder of Harrison Bowers, who was stabbed multiple times to the body at his home and later succumbed to his injuries on February 27, 2016.
On Monday Justice Antoinette Moore in the Dangriga High Court ordered that Depaz will not be eligible for parole until after serving 23 years but also deducted his six years on remand which leaves him with 17 years’ minimum imprisonment effective from Monday, December 4.
According to Court testimony, Enrique Depaz along with two other friends went to the home of Bowers in Silk Grass Village where they began to drink.
The group then decided to break into and allegedly steal items from his home.
They had already entered and were searching for money when Bowers surprised them red-handed.
But Depaz, armed with a knife, chased Bowers outside while his two companions ran out of the house and left him there.
Bowers was stabbed multiple times but managed to make his way to the home of his sister who rushed him to the Southern Regional Hospital outside Dangriga.
Doctor Mario Estradabran concluded that Bowers died from acute pulmonary edema due to multiple organ failure as a consequence of multiple stab wounds.
