By Aaron Humes: Belize City Council’s e-buses have carried more than 180,000 passengers in a little over a year.

But the next step is introducing a cashless payment system through a Public Transport Ridership Card powered by Digiwallet, a division of Belize Telemedia Limited.

Customers will be able to charge and recharge their cards at various vendors as well as through Telemedia, eliminating the need for use of coins and bills.

Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner says he expects a “ripple effect” in transport and related services, buttressing the Old Capital’s efforts to become cleaner and more efficient.

This is part of the continued Pilot Project funded by the European Union and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
