By Horace Palacio: Former Minister of State Elodio Aragon Jr. has officially stepped down as the United Democratic Party (UDP) Standard Bearer for Orange Walk East, citing internal discord within the party as a key factor in his decision.
In a letter addressed to UDP Leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Aragon explained that his commitment remains solely to serving the people of Orange Walk East, but under the current circumstances, he believes he cannot effectively do so.
His resignation comes at a time when the UDP is facing significant internal challenges, with ongoing infighting and factional disputes threatening party unity ahead of the next general elections.
The UDP has not yet issued an official response to Aragon’s departure, but his resignation is expected to have a major impact on the party’s political strategy in the Orange Walk District.
