Elijah Buller pleads guilty to blackmailing uncle for $2,000 and threatening to kill whole family

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Elijah Buller, accused of threatening to kill his uncle and his family in a disturbing blackmail plot, has pleaded guilty in the Belize High Court as part of a plea bargain agreement with the Crown.

Buller, who remains out on bail, appeared before Justice Nigel Pilgrim around 9:21 a.m. on Wednesday, where he was reindicted and formally read the charge of blackmail. After accepting the facts of the case and confirming that he was acting of his own free will, Buller entered a guilty plea.

He is now scheduled to be sentenced this Friday, July 4, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., where he is expected to receive a non-custodial sentence that includes paying compensation to the victims, based on the terms of his plea deal.

The blackmail incident dates back to July 7, 2023, when Buller visited his uncle’s home visibly angry following a police raid earlier that day, during which illegal substances were allegedly found outside the property. Buller reportedly believed that his uncle had tipped off police, prompting the seizure.

Later that evening, Buller banged on the front door, pointed a firearm at his uncle’s wife, and threatened the family. “You, yuh wife, and daughter wa dead if you nuh give me $2,000 by Sunday, [July 9],” Buller allegedly said, according to the couple’s police statement.

Though Buller fled before police could apprehend him that night, he reportedly repeated the same threat again the following day. Fearing for their lives, the family contacted authorities, and Buller was later arrested and charged with blackmail.

During the High Court hearing, Justice Pilgrim ensured Buller understood the consequences of his plea and confirmed he was not coerced. Buller maintained that his guilty plea was voluntary and accepted responsibility for his actions.

While a prison sentence is not expected, Buller’s fate now rests on the recommendations of the Crown and the court’s final judgment. The matter will return before Justice Pilgrim on Friday for sentencing.
