Electronic Travel Authorisation required for UK travel starting January 2025

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Commencing January 8, 2025, Belizeans will require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for most visits to the United Kingdom.

This new requirement applies to anyone (excluding UK and Irish nationals) who does not currently need a UK visa.

Belizeans can begin to apply for the ETA through the UK ETA app or on the GOV.UK website.

The process is quick, typically taking about ten minutes, and the ETA costs £10 (approximately BZ$25-30). The application must be done before traveling.

The ETA permits multiple visits for stays of up to 6 months and is valid for two years or until the passport expires.

The ETA is not a visa but digital permission to travel.

It is required for holidays, short-term business or study, and transit through the UK. Belizeans planning to work, study long-term, or immigrate will still need to apply for a relevant visa.

By the end of 2025, all non-UK and non-Irish travelers will need either an ETA or an eVisa to enter the UK, including for transit through UK airports,a  release from the British High COmmission noted.
