Electronic repairman remanded after allegedly chopping past customer with machete after argument over amp & deck repair

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City electronic technician has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after he was arraigned on charges stemming from a machete attack that reportedly left a man injured to the neck.

Forty-five-year-old Phillip Goff, of a North Creek address in Belize City, appeared before Magistrate Neeshad Mohammed in Court #7 on Tuesday morning, where he was read three indictable charges: attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm upon a previous customer.

No plea was taken because of the nature of the offences. Bail was denied, and Goff was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until July 28, 2026.

During his arraignment, Goff claimed that he was the actual victim and that he had acted in self-defense.

“I was the victim. The guy attacked me. I was acting in self-defense,” Goff told the court. He further claimed that the customer attacked him while he was buying Boledo at the shop and that he had to leave the scene because his eyes were badly injured.

According to police, the complainant reported that he was at A&G Shop, located at the corner of Baymen Avenue and St. Joseph Street in Belize City, when he saw Goff. He reportedly told police that he had paid Goff in 2025 to repair an amplifier and deck, and that an argument developed between the two men.

Police say the man alleged that Goff later went to his vehicle, retrieved a machete, and inflicted chop wounds to him, causing injuries to his neck area.

The matter remains before the court.
