By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City electrician has picked up a drug conviction after pleading guilty to possession of 23 grams of cannabis.
Tyrone Theodore Andrews, 41, of Fern Lane, Belize City, appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate in Court #3, where he was read a single charge of possession of controlled drugs.
Andrews wasted no time and pleaded guilty to the charge.
Police say Andrews was found with the cannabis on Saturday, May 30, 2026, during a mobile patrol in the Fern Lane area. According to the facts, officers were travelling from Fern Lane toward Flamboyant Street when their attention was drawn to Andrews, who was sitting near the entrance of a gate.
Police say that when Andrews saw the officers, he tossed a yellow bag that had been on his lap. The officers stopped and approached him. When asked whether he had anything illegal to declare, Andrews reportedly told police, “I just bought some weed.”
A search led to the discovery of a yellow bag containing green leafy substances suspected to be cannabis. Andrews was taken to the Mahogany Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 23 grams.
For his guilty plea, Andrews was fined $250, plus $5 cost of court, which he must pay by July 30, 2026. In default of payment, he will serve two months in prison.
