By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 60-year-old man from Punta Gorda Town was fined in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to possession of a crack pipe, but he also claimed that police took his money and never returned it.
Allan Harvey Apolonio, a fish scraper by trade, was arrested on August 5, 2025, in Taylor’s Alley, a known drug hotspot in Belize City. Police reported finding Apolonio in possession of a 2.5-inch silver pipe, allegedly used for smoking crack cocaine.
In court, Apolonio immediately pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of utensils for smoking a controlled drug. He told the sitting Magistrate in Court #5 that during his detention, a male officer searched him and took $23.50, which was never returned.
“The officer told me I spend my money, but I know I didn’t,” Apolonio insisted, asking the court to ensure he gets his money back.
The Magistrate advised him to visit the police station to inquire further about the missing cash.
As a first-time offender, Apolonio was given a non-custodial sentence — a fine of $150 plus $5 cost of court, payable by September 30, 2025, or he will serve two weeks in prison in default.
