By Aaron Humes: An elderly couple fell victim to a brazen robbery on Chancellor Avenue and University Drive on Friday evening.
The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m., when a couple in their 50s were in their 2001 grey Toyota Rav4. According to reports, the couple was traveling north on University Drive when an unknown vehicle cut in front of them, forcing them to come to a halt. Without warning, four masked men, armed with firearms, exited the vehicle. Witnesses say that the assailants approached the Rav4 and violently shattered the passenger side window using a hammer.
The robbers demanded money and, in a matter of moments, made off with a garbage bag containing old clothes valued at $50, as well as an Apple cellular phone worth $400. Following the robbery, the suspects quickly returned to their vehicle and fled the scene, heading up Chancellor Avenue towards Belize Healthcare Partners.
Police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident or the identity of the suspects to come forward as investigations continue.
