By Breaking Belize News Staff: The El Gran Mestizo Resort in Orange Walk celebrated the grand opening of its new North Wing this week, featuring 18 new rooms on the historic New River, with guests including Prime Minister John Briceño, Mayor Ladrick Shepherd and Belize Tourism Board (BTB) Director of Tourism, Evan Tillett.
With the addition of the new North Wing to the resort, El Gran Mestizo now boasts a total of 30 rental units; with beautiful spaces to accommodate and host weddings, workshops and seminars. The property also features a swimming pool and live entertainment at its onsite restaurant, the Maracas Bar and Grill.
El Gran Mestizo Resort owner, Orlando De La Fuente, told Breaking Belize News (BBN) that his team is extremely proud to promote Northern Belize, specifically Orange Walk, as an high-standard alternative to other popular tourist destinations around the country. “Most people who visit the islands of Belize miss the charm, the culinary highlights and the jungle experience of northern Belize.”
“We are happy to be part of the tourism product of Northern Belize,” De La Fuente Said. Prime Minister Briceño also offered words of congratulations on the launch, “With creativity, with vision, hard work and discipline, a lot can be done,” the Prime Minister lamented.
Between El Gran Mestizo and its sister property Hotel De La Fuente, which are 100% Belizean owned, the twin hotels now employ a total of 50 Belizeans, who are able to participate in the tourism product right in their hometowns of Orange Walk.
“We live by the credo that you should leave happier than when you arrived. It is a high bar but we embrace it. We look forward to making great memories for our visitors,” De La Funete added.
