By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The BTIA Cayo Chapter will honor the lives and legacy of Orlando and Richard Harrison with a special memorial canoe race as part of El Cayo Festival 2026.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The race will start at the Hawksworth Bridge, continue to the Baking Pot Ferry, and then return, bringing together competition, community spirit and remembrance along a river deeply connected to the Harrison brothers.
Orlando and Richard Harrison are remembered for their close association with the Belize River and the canoeing community.
Organizers say the race is intended to celebrate their lasting impact while giving paddlers and supporters an opportunity to come together in their memory.
The registration fee is $100 per team.
Race categories include Professional Male, Mixed Category and C2 Category.
Prizes and gifts in kind will be presented at the Macal Riverside following the race.
Teams interested in participating can register by calling +501 605 1263.
The BTIA Cayo Chapter is encouraging the public to come out, support the teams and help celebrate two brothers whose connection to the river remains part of the community’s story.
